And while I am left a little disappointed regarding a couple of playability issues, I cannot in good conscious leave this a bad review.First of all, I agree with the other reviews in that this is not a remaster in the way you would expect, but bear in mind they don't call this a remaster (- High-end graphics upscaling (xBRZ filter) for high-resolution displays - As stated on the store page.) The graphics have been smoothed with a filter and looks pretty enough, but lacks the original character and detail. No problem; original graphics are there as an option. (It is being compared to the Monkey Island remasters which had freshly drawn graphics throughout, but that always looked strange to me, a bit rushed and inconsistent and put me off.)The controls have some issues just now, but the developer is working on it and has already updated. I read that there are also plans regarding the look of the new cursor and hotspot options which make the game friendlier to play and easier to solve - controvertial to some loyal fans but arguably important to introduce it to the new generation - so it looks like they are listening to the community to make sure new and old fans are satisfied. It wasn't until years later before I actually finished the game myself, because the internet wasn't available enough to find out where that tiny little item I could never find was, but I don't think it would have had such an imprint on me if I had the option to just highlight the things I couldn't see.Just avoid the temptation to turn it back on. Puzzle solving is unaffected though, and remains as obtuse and rewarding as it was.I'd love to play this touchscreen with a Windows tablet, but it doesn't really seem to work unfortunately. The music is a big thing for me. Debate all you may but the Amiga had a much better sound than the PC MIDI at the time, and I can't play DOS versions of Civ, Cannon Fodder, Monkey Island, anything at all without cringing at the music. Many game soundtracks back then were created on the Amiga (I don't know if it was the case for Simon) and it always felt sweeter and more balanced than it's MIDI counterpart. It's the same here. I love the new recordings, great job! But it still not right to me. Some of the instruments and phrases always stood out more, so hearing it with a different balance and timbre feels like hearing a translation in a thick accent using the wrong inflections. This is a problem between the original platforms though, and the new recording to me sounds much superior to the Windows version. I just have to try and import the Amiga soundtrack to peak my nostalgic trip. Anyone who grew up with the PC version will probably have the opposite reaction and I'm happy for them. The game itself is a comedy masterpiece full of fantasy references, memorable original characters with witty and sarcastic dialogue, absurd jokes and fiendishly creative puzzles, and Smeg Head himself voicing the main dude! I have no idea how many times over the last 20 years I have watched a movie or read a book for the first time and went "Aaaah! So that's where that comes from!" I didn't know anything about The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings or Discworld or anything at the time, but getting into those franchises felt immediately familiar. It's like watching Simpsons episodes from 20 years ago and realizing you only just got the joke. But that doesn't mean the episode wasn't funny at the time. Do you know what I mean?Overall most definitely worth a fiver. If you're old enough to remember it, you can afford it. If you're not, I'd say take the gamble. Couple of kinks but they're on top of it.. Edit: The cursor issue has been fixed and the game is now playable. The new graphics still don't look very good. But it can be played with the old or new graphics. This is a great game now that it is playable :) ---------------The NEW graphics have somehow gotten worse after 25 years. The mouse cursor jumps around randomly all the time making the game unplayable.I'm sure there is a lot more wrong with it but I wasn't able to make it that far.I was really looking forward to playing this game since it was so amazing when I played it as a kid. But everything about this remake is horrible and unplayable.. Ok. This game aged very very badly. Even with the Legacy DLC i cant get any joy out of this game. I haved played many old school classics on Steam but this is really not worth it. "The Dig" from Lucas Arts comes in VGA graphics as well but is sooo much more enjoyable. Not even for nostalgic reasons is this game to be recommended.. A good game with good British humor and only a few nonsense puzzles.. Okay, so this isn't a black-or-white decision for some. But if you tally it all up and look at the bottom line, it's a resounding yes.Is it an actual HD remaster? No, it isn't. But they clealry state it's an xBRZ upscale and nothing else. And there's an option to play the original style, which we switched to in a click of a button.Would I have loved the graphic interface option? Sure, but it's not a dealbreaker. But here are the main pro points:Nobody buys the rights for an old point and click game and releases it with bonus material to make a quick buck. These guys love the game and made it available for old fans and new. Cease it.There were several bugs and glitches post-release, and they were quick to address and resolve issues, with constant presence in the forums. This isn't a drive-by cash grab. Support is prompt and personal.Paying for this is voting for more classic re-releases. And I want more.Even with its faults, it's worth the reasonable pricetag. This game is using ScummVM 1.8which has a known issue on newer versions of windwos 10 which causes random mouse jumping. see> http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=85213&sid=f568ec6c8744512cc51f3c58c77fbb7d This was fixed in later recent versions of ScummVM (2.0) Also the "New" textures are just a filter and look absolutely horiable, if you want to buy this and play it use the classic graphics. The new icons do not match the aesthetics of the game. The MT-32 Sound settings sounds off.. Simon the Sorcerer is one of the best adventure games ever. I remember him as something that made my childhood a better place. mojotouch did a great job and brought us the game back after many years with many innovations and graphics enhancements and many other good things. And what makes me particularly happy is that the game has also been translated into my mother tongue - Hebrew.I highly recommend it.. holy ƒuck, this is tr@sh crappy custom options menu ui hackjob, could be done by a non professional hobby programmer in 1-2 days in unity seems like its just a modded scummVM version of the game new soundtrack? you gotta be kidding me, they just added some percussion and hihats to the existing soundtrack graphic overhaul? not really, just some pixel smoothing shader layed over it that takes literally the click of a button in ScummVM the cursor and menus are buggy as hell, everything is flickering and the game crashed 2 times on me while some dialog tried to load making me lose all progressif you expect anything at all like the day of the tentacle or monkey island remasters, stay away from this, i wouldnt even play this over the original if it was freehad my copy refundeddont buy this sh!t. Only runs in full screen, offers no way to change this, or the monitor it's running on. Sadly my main monitor is 43" 4K, making it a massive headache to play.
